Legacy
It occurred to me after the million-and-oneth artist I know did their silly little “free Palestine” performative act, this time in song and dance. What exactly do these 21st-century clowns think they’re doing?
They live off the pop culture phenomenon of the moment. It’s not surprising to see them trying to cash in on the wave of Jew hate sweeping the world. Probably most of them are utterly clueless even as to its true nature. But the fact remains that they are siding with genocidal terrorists and fascists against the Jewish people, an unforgivable act in the eyes of history.
They are attaching their names, their reputations, their entire legacies to what is a fundamentally antisemitic movement built on lies about the Jewish people and which has already caused untold suffering to Jews and gentiles alike. I come from philosophy, and I can tell you that though Heidegger was brilliant, he was still a card-carrying Nazi; and that choice of his has forever stained his legacy. Can one separate the art from the artist? Certainly Heidegger would argue yes, but I am not so sure. And especially not when the art is itself an endorsement of the deplorable.
You almost have to respect that the chasers of momentary popularity have such tunnel vision for it that they miss everything else of importance in this life. Like the generations of future humanity that will observe their art and choices long after they are dead and gone. And whether it is “fair” or not, they will be judged.
Because I am aware of a good deal of the facts on the ground, I can make my choice to stand with the Jewish people and nation without fear of future embarrassment in the history books. If artists truly cared about making art that lasts, they would at least try to understand their subject matter before forever committing themselves to the decidedly wrong side of history.
When will they discover what a catastrophically terrible choice they’ve made? And what will they do? Weep, beg forgiveness? Double down? Only by reconciling with their sins against humanity can they hope to somewhat rehabilitate their legacy.
If I know human pride, it will be a good while yet before the pressure and shame of history catches up to them. It has been almost a full year since October 7th, 2023, and still the hateful masses are at it and ruining yet more lives by convincing others to sign on to “progressive” fascism. Forgive them, for they know not what they do. Or don’t. I really don’t care.
Stand with the Jewish people: the people that have survived thousands of years and countless lies, atrocities, and transgressions. The right side of history is on their side, always. Stand with the Good, and live forever in the story of humanity. Stand with evil, and be tossed in the bin where you and your legacy belong.
